Home Made Sugar Free Granola

As you know here at Physique Fitness we love our eggs for breakfast, but there are a lot of our clients out there who say they just can't make the time to prepare eggs in the morning.

So just for them, we have prepared a healthier alternative to the dreaded breakfast cereal, a home made granola recipe, and it's sugar free. It can be enjoyed with Milk, yogurt, or you can even make some healthy bars to eat on the go.

This recipe is great and very healthy as we are using egg whites to bind the mixture together, so we avoid adding extra unwanted fats.

You will also notice unlike unhealthy shop bought granola, that we do not add dried fruit to our recipe, instead we recommend adding fresh fruit when you eat it. How about adding some cocoa to the mixture, for a really tasty treat.

Ingredients:

180g Oats

30g Pumpkin Seeds

30g Sunflower Seeds

30g Sesame Seeds

1tbsp Chia Seeds

50g Cashew Nuts

50g Walnuts

1tbsp Xylatol

3 Egg Whites

A good pinch of sea salt

Preperation:

Pre-heat the oven at 110c

Place all oats, nuts, seeds and Xylatol into a large bowl

Beat the egg whites until they are light and fluffy

Add the eggs to the bowl and gently mix in to the mixture

Place the mixture onto a large tray covered in grease proof paper

We have two options here, you can spread the mixture out evenly and press it down firmly (this is perfect for making bars), or you can leave it loose (better for granola)

Bake in the oven for around 60 minutes, until golden but not burnt

(if you have chosen to leave the mixture loose, take out out of the oven every 20 minutes and give it a bit of a shuffle)

Once baked, remove from the oven and leave to cool. If you have made a flat mixture, this can be put on a rack to cool. Once cooled, smash it up if you are making granola or cut into bars, and place in an air tight container.

Note: You can use any mix of nuts and seeds, it's really down to personal taste.
